If you end up repainting ( and you likely know this) use a Rustoleum Auto Gray Primer over the bare metal and follow it with Rustoleum satin black #7777- a very nice match for the 2A/2B- perhaps 2 coats with wet sanding in between to remove any dust/dirt. MY painter lost my silk screen and artwork for the 2B, so no more front panels. Personally, I think it sucks, but that's my opinion. I acquired the full manual for it and am contemplating putting it up on E-Bay for someone who may like Regens to play with. It "may" need the tuning touched up a bit, but "I" don't have time. It's sat on my shelf for 99.8% of the time I've owned it. C.L.F. Message-ID: Date: Sun, 15 Jan 2006 15:56:55 GMT The regenerative superhet described by Mike is a good idea. it is known as the "super gainer" and was pioneered by Frank Jones. They are described in the 1938 Radio Handbook. The converter in front of the regen receiver substantially reduces radiation by the receiver and also eliminates the effect of a swaying antenna. By setting the fixed if between two amateur bands, both bands can be covered with one oscillator coil. The drawback is an increase in parts count . For some, simplicity becomes elegance. There is nothing like honing your skills during a gusty evening, where the open oscillator coil changes pitch with each puff of wind and your movement around the room. For those, a digitally locked oscillator is heresy. All bands are 10-20 KHZ high. I have trimmed the respective capacitors to minimum and am still high. Manual says respective coils are adjustable but they appear fixed. Q1: is there a general reason or fix for why all bands are high out of range? Q2: Is there a way to adjust the coils? That is: check for loose couplers between the dial drives and caps, make sure the dial pointer physically stops at the correct points at the rotational stops... That the tuning capacitor plates are fully unmeshed or meshed at the rotational stops (or as shown by the manufacturer). The Trimmer caps SHOULD allow you bring the high end of the bands into calibration regardless of other issues... The low end of the band alignment is usually set by the coil slug(s).
