Atlas Games

Atlas Games is the publisher of Ars Magica, a pen-and-paper role-playing game. Ars Magica is best-known for its well-designed rules for magic and its setting based on medieval history. In many ways, Tempora Heroica is a fantasy interpretation of Ars Magica and our magic system and other facets of the MUD have been inspired by this game. (Ars Magica is a trademark of Trident Inc. The use of this trademarks is without permission, and does not constitute a challenge to their ownership.)

A list compiled by AxL of the oldest established MUDs that derive from the venerable DikuMUD. Not surprisingly, Tempora Heroica (formerly Archipelago) is listed, since the MUD has been going strong since 1993.

She wrote, “I find the world invigorating and open to ideas, with a team of immortals who work hard to keep the place together and let it grow.” Her review was written in 2003.

Xorthan’s Review of Tempora Heroica

Xorthan, a former player and builder on Tempora Heroica wrote a review of the MUD. He wrote, “If you enjoy exploring fully detailed medieval worlds, meeting interesting friendly people, battling foes with a huge selection of spells and skills, and being able to defend your characters ideals, beliefs and clan against other people whist [sic] it still retains a friendly atmosphere and status-quo this is the place for you.” His review was written in 1999.

Guide to Setting up Archipelago MUD on Cygwin
