By no means accept my idea wholesale, Randy. At this point it's just a thesis
and research in secondary literature is called for. And don't throw away
Turner. I have great respect for his work. My point is that if the construction
occurs in Demosthenes (as I think it does), that fact alone is probably enough
to conclude that it was not foreign to classical Greek. As is often said in
textual criticism, manuscripts should be weighed, not counted, and Demosthenes
carries a great deal of weight.
