I do apologize for posting such a lengthy note, but I couldn't figure
out how to intrude on the argument without doing so either! Further, I seem to
confuse my Carls and Carltons, with apologies. I was making the assumption
that the department of classics Carl might be able to provide some ready
references to honorific strivings among disciples vying (spelling?) for
preeminence in Hellenistic (classical and/or philosophic) writings. I too,
have valued the discussion to date, with its variant possibilites for
interpretation(s).
