I would mostly agree with Carl's appraisal of Paul's explanation, and only a
couple of minor points barely justify this response. When Carl translates
Jesus as saying, "Don't you want to go your way too?" (v. 67), I infer a
tone of voice which would call for OU rather than MH, and the sense here
seems to be that Jesus is presenting challenge to his disciples as a possible
but unlikely choice for them, and consequently drawing a response (which
Peter provides). V. 70 is another challenge to the disciples to evaluate
their level of commitment; not that Jesus erred in the choice of Judas, but
that Judas is visible evidence that actions speak louder--and are much more
difficult--than words.
