Carl, your note was kind and encouraging beyond measure or
description. I just hope this one didn't go to the list!

For what it's worth, I've never found your posts "conceited," either;
had I, I would not have felt comfortable asking you for an evaluation
of mine.

I'm happy, now, to put the matter behind us. It was good for me,
regardless of other considerations, to think about this matter again,
and to be reminded of the necessity of neither crossing "that line"
nor giving the impression that I have. Of course, the other line is
the line the other side of which is the domain of Mr. Heep. So I'm
left in the place I described in the last note to you: if God gives
me grace to embody true humility, it will be evident in my speech and
conduct without my having to call attention to it or raise questions
about it.

Thanks again. It's been, as you say, embarrassing, but good.
