The most challenging new book on Paul appears to be that of Robert
Hamerton-Kelly, "Sacred Violence: Paul's Hermeneutic of the Cross" (1992).
Probably your professors don't know beans about it, but this discussion of
Rene Girard's theory of scapegoating is on the way to becoming the new
Bultmannian inferno - you can take the ball and run any which way you want
with it. Kelly will make you rethink your views of Paul.
