Felix, I got this from A T Robertson's Word Pictures in the NT, via
Hermeneutika's BibleWorks:
Old verb from hierosulos (Acts 19:37), which derived from hieron "temple"
and sulao "to rob."
In Acts 19:37 the town clerk said that Paul and his companions were not
"robbers of temples." Josephus (in Antiquities IV 8, 10) says that this was
explicitly forbidden to Jews.
