Dale:

In some circles to say," such and such translation says..." would be the
kiss of death. In large sections of America there are many people who
virulently KJV only and consider any other version, translation or
paraphrase to be a "peversion." Since most are not Greek literate, I've said
in the past "what Paul (Jesus, James, Luke) meant by this is..." the way the
Greek reads is...." not to appear as an erudite, but to keep from unduly
offending people.
