Greek and culture

Does anyone have any references to culture examples in the Greek text which
are not portrayed in translation? I'm looking for something in the context
of reading a modern language translation without the knowledge of Greek and
where wrong conclusions can thus be drawn, where a knowledge of Greek in
its cultural setting would help the reader to avoid such pitfalls. Or may
be someone will have some references where reading Greek provides
information and insights not otherwise available in translation.
