I've always liked the title given to his CBA Presidential address by
Bruce Malina in 1988,
Christ and Time: Swiss or Mediterranean?
(published in the Jan 1989 CBQ)
OK, it's a catchy title, but it _does_ constitute a navigation warning <g>
His intro begins with a reference to Culmann's book, and having quoted from
it about "........ avoiding philosophical categories", Malina goes on to
advocate that " we must likewise avoid those cultural categories from which
the inappropriate philosophical categories in question derive ".
He then develops a very important concept:
"circum Baltic peoples were, and are, fundamentally different from
circum-Mediterraneans".
The whole thing makes for fascinating reading, and provokes a lot of
thought anytime I go back to it. Recommended!
