On July 11 at 11:16AM, James C. Clardy asks:

><<Is there a kind of "judgment" implied in the.....meizon krima.....of
James 3:1?>>

I'm writing as a neophyte here, so feel free to "zap" ...

>From what I gather, KRIMA carries both the connotations of "judgment"
and "condemnation", so, yes, I think there is.

Equally important here, it seems to me, is the use of GINOMAI, which
appears to carry more of the semantics of "become" than of "be" (as the
KJV has it) in this context.

In our denomination, "teacher" is considered an ordained office (cf. 1
Cor 12:28-29; Eph 4:11), not just a "role", in which light this passage
IMHO presents few difficulties.

This is another case where it strikes me (again, as a neophyte) that the
NAB (I'm not talking about the NASB, BTW) before its revision captures
much of the sense of the passage: "Not many of you should become
teachers, my brothers; you should realize that those of us who do so
will be called to the stricter account."
