<<I am trying to find out the date of a NT apocryphal work entitled The
Assumption of the Virgin. It uses APOSTASIA to describe a literal physical
rapture. Edgar Hennecke, New Testament Apocrypha, 1:429, says that it is no
earlier that 400 A.D. Does anyone know where I might find more info on this.

I have a copy of an apocryphal work edited by Tischendorf entitled IOHANNIS
LIBER DORMITIONE MARIAE. It is only the Greek text. I'm not sure if this is
the same thing or a related document. Others on the list might. My latin is
very poor but it seems to be entitled "John's Book on the Sleep (death?) of
Mary." More than likely I will stand corrected.
