ENTOS in Luke 17:21

Dear B-Greekers,

I have been researching the use of ENTOS with respect to Luke 17:21.
I have read the articles in the 'Journal of Evangelical Theological
Society, March 1992' and 'The Westminster Theological Journal 1962,
Volume 25'. They take oposing views for the translation of this
word.

My Zerwick handbook makes a statement that ENTOS is not found with
the meaning 'in your midst' in the NT. I was not prepared, after
reading that, to find that ENTOS is only found twice in the NT, and
only once with the form ENTOS + Genitive ! I also did not find
it at all in the LXX.

I found it interesting that neither of the articles that I read
commented on how NT writers expressed it when abstractions
like [joy, works, word, attitude] or holy spirit was 'in'
someone. These below are some that I found, and they all use
EN or EIS (See below).

Next I looked at occurences where EN MESW was used as in 'the midst of'.
>From the definition in LJS9, and the use in the NT I get the feeling
that MESW not only specifies that something is _among_ something
else, but also specifices a measured relationship, (i.e) middle
of the group of objects, etc. Therefore, my feeling is that it
would not be correct for someone talking to another group which
was close in proximity, but perhaps who were not completely
surrounding him as that he was MESW. But I may be wrong.

I found these two references on Perseus which show a use of ENTOS
as describing an interior among a group of objects.

race-courses, of a bank of earth, and a fountain worth seeing for its

So I guess my question is this. Most modern translations translate
Luke 17:21 as that the kingdom is 'among' or 'in the midst' of those
who Jesus was speaking to (the Pharasees), therefore is the belief
that the kingdom 'in the hearts' of people, still considered a
possible translation by modern scholars ?

Does anyone have any insight as to whether the etymology of the word
ENTOS (i.e is it related to EN in some way) could have some bearing
on it's usage, or why this word is so uncommon in Biblical Koine ?
