Osburn quotes from a Master's Thesis by a Judy Glaze, entitled, "The
Septuagintal Use of the Third Person Imperative" (Harding Graduate School of
Religion, 1000 Cherry Road, Memphis, TN, 1979). Osburn notes that "Glaze
observes that the third person singular imperative does function in concert
with a second person plural imperative so as to allow the speaker addressing
a group to address members of that group individually. In this distributive
imperatival usage, the speaker attaches such tremendous importance to the
command that he makes it clear with the third person singular imperative
that not a single member of the group is exempt." Osburn continues to note
examples given by Glaze as Exodus 16:29; Joshua 6:10; 2 Kings 10:19; and
Zechariah 7:10.
He further points out that this usage is found in apocryphal lit. in 1
Maccabees 10:63, and in the Apostolic fathers in Didache 15:3; and Ignatius,
"Magnesians" 6:2.
