Ginger, no I do not think that the Joshua story is more likely. It has no
eschatological dimensions to it, not does it prepare the arrival of a
ruler. I read 1 Cor 15:52 in the light of 1 Thess 4:16; that is, I
understand the trumpet as that of the chief herald announcing the arrival
of a ruler [in this case the KYRIOS].
If my memory is right, the trumpet I referred to as giving military orders
was the one in 1 Cor 14:8
