Spiro Zodhiates is one reputabable scholar who is a proponent of the distinction in usage between the singular and plural of GLWSSA. The semantic arguement is, by itself, very weak. We do not have a remote context with which to establish the premise. It would appear that the church in Corinth was the only church facing this issue at this time. In order to properly understand Paul's communication here we need to identify the unique cultural situation which created this condition. Does anyone know of any extant works describing the oracle at Delphi? The exstatic utterances of this cult most likely form the sub-text of 1Co 12-14. Until we have access to such isogogic material, the issue of tongues is more properly a socialogical issue rather than a textual issue.
