Zodhiates & MacArthur

I think Zodhiates is a sucker for the root fallacy. His word definitions
talk more about etymology than usage.

Although he is a native Greek speaker, he is a native MODERN Greek
speaker which is much different from koine. Even if he was a native
Greek Koine speaker that doesn't necessarily mean he is an authority - I
am a native English speaker, but I'm no English professor.

As far as MacArthur's comments go, I find his argument rather stretched.
I think Occam's Razor comes in here - there are much simpler and more
coherent interpretations (like that of Steve Carlson's). Note that
MacArthur is very much a cessationist and very much an anti-charasmatic
as a reading of his 2 books against charasmaticism will show, so I
wonder how much influence his presuppositions play in his interpretation
of this text.

cheers,
Andrew
