I have used several grammars in teaching Greek, including Machen.
The main criticism of Machen I have is something I have heard many
others complain about, that is, that his Greek exercises are too
contrived and do not necessarily reflect normal Koine or Attic Greek.
Other than that, I think he is fine. His grammar can certainly be
supplemented with real life Greek readings, or if one really wants to
get industrious, he can create his own exercises.
