The difficulties raised by the writer on this topic point to 
the fact that this is an ecclesiastical problem rather than one for
scholarship on the NT.  For the latter do we not need to study all the
literature of the period, even if we might regard some as more characteristic
of "classical Christianity" is such a notion is useful?
