There is an unusual and challenging book which I would recommend to members who
have been interested in this discussion:

Words and the Word : language, poetics and Biblical interpretation , 
by Stephen Prickett.  Cambridge : Cambridge University Press, 1986.

Professor Prickett is in an English Department, and his viewpoint is that of a
literary critic rather than a theologian, but he has much of interest to say
about translation of expressions with multiple meanings.
