Disambiguation



     I see I didn't really get my point across.  My point was NOT that
I couldn't figure out what "disambiguation" means (even if I've never
seen it in print).  My point is this:  for those who have written
posts with a fairly negative view towards word studies because of
the issue of "disambiguation", I'd like very much to now, in specific
detail, how you would carry out "disambiguation" in a real example
where the whole meaning of the statement turns on how we
understand the word.  For example, how about authentein in 1 Tim 2?
Or what about hilastErion in in Romans 3:24?  Seriously, if the
current methods you have mentioned are fatally flawed (and I can accept
that in many forms, word studies are flawed), how do you specifically
propose to get at the meaning of words and statements where the
meaning of a word or phrase is "ambiguous"?  If you are going to say
that the typical way of doing word studies is not valid, I think it might
be appropriate for you to propose an alternative, and obviously,
I never really suggested that you think the meaning of individual
words didn't matter at all.  That would be "block-headed" but many
posts do seem to seriously down-play looking for the meaning of
individual words.  Perhaps that needs nuancing?
