Another interesting passage in Paul along these lines is Rom 8:33-34:

tis egkalesei kata eklektwn qeou; qeos ho dikaiwn: tis ho katakrinwn; 
Xristos [ihsous] ho apoqanwn, mallon de egerqeis, hos kai estin...
