It seems quite obvious that "fasting" has been added to Mark 9:29 (also
added to Acts 10:30 & 1 Cor. 7:5) Is this simply a doctrinal change or for
the purpose of clarifying the meaning of the word "prayer" in these cases.
Here the word "prosecho" seems to imply an earnestness that might include
fasting. In Mark 9 the disciples had already prayed. To tell them, "This
kind cannot come out by anything but prayer" would only make sense if a
greater intensity of prayer that might include fasting was understood.
Although this argument would not prove strong in the case of Acts 10:30, it
would have some validity in 1 Cor. 7:5. Paul instructs husbands and wives
not to deprive one another accept to devote to a time of prayer. Again this
would imply a greater intensity of prayer. Any comments?
