Hello All,
Recently while engaged in a study I wound up doing a word study on the
word ISXUS. Where as I can not say I have done an extensive research on the
word I have come up with a few peculiarities that I would like to see
addressed.
In Isa. 2:10, 19, 21 we see the phrase "splendor of His majesty" (NASB).
This, I believe, in the LXX is translated APO TES DOXES TES ISXUS AUTON. In
2Thess. 1:9 we see ISXUS used in the "glory of His power". My question is
this, however simple it may be, what is the relative use between majesty,
power and as I will discuss further in a moment, strength in correlation to
the divine attributes of God. Is this an exclusive attribute of God? And to
throw a little oddity into the question Job 12:16 reads PAR AUTW KRATOS KAI
ISXUS. Which is to say "with Him are strength and sound wisdom" (NASB,
NKJV substitutes "sound wisdom with "prudence").
The second part to my ISXUS inquiry is Mark 12:30 (Lk. 10:27) read EX OLES
TES ISXUS. While placing the responsibility on the believer to exercise it,
does this by use of ISXUS, refer to the exclusive attribute of God's
strength which He gracefully bestows on the believer? To further that
question Peter (1Pet. 4:11) commands that who ever seeks to serve must do
so "by the strength (EX ISXUS) which God supplies". NKJV translates
"strength" as "ability". This seems to reinforce the believer's
responsiblity to excerise his God given "strength.
