Regarding the pronunciation of Liddell -- my recollection of every one I
knew (and know) at Oxford who referred to LSJ was that Liddell was indeed
pronounced LIDdell (as in little). Moreover, they often recited a
LIDdell ditty about the original pair of lexicographers that went:
Said Liddell to Scott,
"That's the lot!"
