dependency of phrases

Filloi,

In Eph. 3:16 we read:

"katoikhsai ton Criston dia ths pistews en tais kardias umwn"

Now how do you determine the dependency of phrases in Greek?

As far as I can see it could be either:
1. Christ may dwell
        through faith
                in your hearts

2. Christ may dwell
        in your hearts
        through faith

"in your hearts" could be the locative of the main verb (case 2) or a
locative of "faith" in means clause (case 1).

Are there any principles or rules for this?

cheers,
Andrew
