KUDOS to Jeffrey Gibson for a brilliant esposition--one of the few pieces
of this length that really properly BELONGS within the scope of B-Greek
discussion: I trust that this will find its appropriate publication beyond
the electronic media.

I want to add my own little footnote: I've always thought that the key to
the usage of the verb PEIRAZW and the noun PEISRASMOS in the gospels
especially lay in (a) the stories of the temptation of Jesus by Satan, (b)
the story of Jesus and Peter at Caesarea Philippi, especially in Mark's
gospel, where Peter becomes the PEIRAZWN, and (c) the Gethsemane stories,
where Mark shows Jesus withstanding and the disciples simultaneously
succumbing (literally!) to the PEIRASMOS and where Luke shows the intensity
of the spiritual struggle of PEIRASMOS in his account of Jesus' prayer.
