Re: no contradiction in 1 John 2:7-8. Besides the background from BAGD,
there is the context of the passage.

It looks like the new-old command (v.7) refers to the original teaching
of Jesus which they all heard and embraced. That is the first context.
The second context seems to be that now some of the people have fallen
away. So John wants to hit them with a "new" command (v.8).

   The first new command was "come in" to the kingdom.
   The secnd new command is "stay in" the kingdom.

But that's just how it looks to me. What do others think?
