As wonderful a resource as the ABD is, I agree that an index would be a
*great* --indeed, a crucial-- help.

When I bought my copy (about a month after it was originally released)
the package included a postcard which, if you returned it, promised
that you would be notified when the index volume was released "in about
six months". I promptly sent in my postcard but, needless to say, I've
yet to received a reply.

Two or three years back, someone circulated an FTP address for what was
purported to be an "index" for the ABD. Unfortunately, it turned out to
be little more than a (very incomplete) bibliography of authors of
articles in the ABD. (I still have my copy on floppy somewhere; I can
try to dig it out if you're really interested, but it's really probably
not worth the effort.)

If you receive any information about a real index that's available
anywhere, please be sure to let the rest of us know. The lack of an index
is a serious shortcoming for the ABD. More than once I've given up
looking for information on a given topic, only to find (a few days or
weeks later) a perfectly wonderful article on the topic filed under some
non-obvious heading.

OTOH, now that the ABD is out on CDROM, it seems quite probable that any
effort to supply a (pulpware) index will, sadly, fall by boards...
