Does anyone have any insight into the force of hHMIN in the phrase hOS
'EGENHQH SOFIA hHMIN APO QEOU DIKAIOSUNH TE KAI hAGIASMOS KAI APOLUTRWSIS?
I was reading this passage with a group of pastors and a question was
raised. I felt that the hHMIN referred to subjective appropiation at the
time of coming to faith, in other words, that we came to see Christ as
wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. A commentary I
consulted, however, indicated that no stress should be placed on hHMIN and
that the EGENHQH referred to the objective event on the cross, which
constituted Christ as wisdom, righteousness, etc. I notice that Rienecker-
Rogers Linguistic Key classifies it as a dative of advantage, which would
seem to favor the view of the commentary. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
