B-Greeks,
I have two questions for the list, one that certain is within the bounds
of B-Greek and another that might push the envelope a bit.
I am looking at Lk. 19:44 -- Jesus lament that Jerusalem would be
destroyed because Israel did not know "the time of its visitation" (TON
KAIRON THS EPISKOPHS SOU). I take EPISKOPH to mean here "a final period
of opportunity to discharge an office". So my first question is: Any
disagreements with this interpretation of the meaning of the noun?
My second question is: Is there any evidence to suggest that for Matthew
as well as
Luke the BASILEIA TOU QEOU which Jesus speaks of at the outset of his
ministry, and which he proclaims as having arrived or drawn near, is
viewed as, or can be described in terms of an EPISKOPH if EPISKOPH means
what I think it means? It certainly would help to make sense of Jesus
programatic call for Israel to "repent" in light of the fact that
HGGIKEN ... hH BASILEIA TOU QEOU, wouldn't it?.
