Er, hmm, sorry, the question is re. BAGD which
gives "fertilizer" as one possible meaning of ALAS.
This is not supported by LSJ or as far as I can see
any papyri. Or indeed by common sense. Does
anyone have a contemporary source that would
confirm this?
Also Philo Special Laws 289 states salt is a symbol
of immortality - preserving bodies - and a parable of
the soul. Is such an idea derived from non-Jewish
Greek literature?
Finally has anyone ever tried either burning salt or
leaven on their barbecues to see what would happen?
(This last one is probably an answers off list question)
