Is Strong #3700 considered a defective verb?
Why does Young Concordance list 'see' in (among other verses) Matt. 27:4,
Matt. 27:24, Rev. 19:10 under horao, while Strong lists them all under
#3700 (optanomai and optomai) and not under #3708 (horao)?
Englishman's does as Strongs.
Vine's under APPEAR does as Strongs, listing Matt. 27:4,24, but has the
note, "Optomai is to be found in dictionaries under the word horao, to see;
it supplies some forms that are lacking in that verb."
The New Analytical Greek Lexicon, edited by Wesley J. Perschbacher, printed
by Hendrickson, attributes 'see' in those and Rev. 19:10 as from horao.
Liddell & Scott seems not to enter either optomai or optanomai as a primary
listing; and Bauer, Arndt, Gingrich does not enter optomai as a primary
listing; and Moulton edited by Perschbacher seems not to even list optomai
anywhere at all (perhaps because it is not used in Scripture[?]).
Those of you who may surely have looked into this before, can you explain
why these ambiguities?
Is there anywhere a list available of all defective verbs used in Scripture
showing their omissions?
