Glen,

As is my habit, annoying to some, I checked some commentaries on this (A.B.
Bruce, Hendriksen and Plummer). They did not talk about GAR specifically, but
they all seemed to agree that 6:14-15 was an expansion on the idea presented
in 6:12. Hendriksen launched off on an extended diatribe on the Pauline
doctrine of justification which is kind of beside the point when trying to
understand Matt. 6. Bruce and Plummer also had a few comments relating this to
Paul's teaching.

I noticed that GAR is omitted in Bezae and that the Byzantine text expands the
distance between 6:12 and 6:14 by an addition of what looks like a doxology in
6:13.

Note also that the structure of 6:14,15 contains several kinds of parallelism
including a chaism which has PARAPTWMATA in the first term and in the last
term. The inclusion of PARAPTWMATA expands the main idea beyond that which is
stated in 6:12.

I think that GAR may be epexegetical (what a monstrous word!) but I also think
that even without GAR (Codex Bezae) we would see 6:14,15 as an expansion on
6:12.

This is really a question for Jeffrey Gibson, is it not?

Does anyone else on b-greek live within two miles of another b-greek member? Seminary students living on campus don't answer this. Anyway Glen Johnson lives closer to Seahurst WA than I do. But I live closer to Three Tree Point. Some of you statistics people might give us the probability of two b-greek people ending up within a 2 mile radius. All of this is of course off topic so please respond off list.
