To reply to my own question re the use of TAFOS and MNHMEION. Matt 27:60
uses the latter in reference to the actions of Joseph who buries Jesus in a
'tomb'; then v 61 says two women sat APENANTI TOU TAFOU. This would suggest
that Mth means something other than the tomb itself. Maybe it means the
burial site/ground. What does the preposition mean? It would seem like it
might mean something like 'opposite' = 'on the other side of the street'
kind of thing. In other words, the women are not 'at' the tomb. And the
soldiers are placed to guard the TAFOS [v64] again means they guard the
burial ground as much as they guard the actual tomb.
Right?
Or is it all to do with sources? Mth 27:60 uses MNHMEION because Mk [his
source] uses it [Mk 15:46] but Mth 27:61-66 [which uses TAFOS] is unique to
Matthew?
