Hi James
GEENA is more than just a geographical location. The NT associations are
also found in pseudepigrapha (Apoc Abraham, Greek Apoc Ezra, Martyrdom of
Isaiah, Sybilline oracles) and in the Mishnah:

"The best among physicians is destined for Gehenna
The most seemly among butchers is a partner of Amalek"
(Rabbi Judah in the name of Abba Guria, Kiddushin 4:14)

Likewise Matt23:15 "child of Gehenna" is also found in the Babylonian
Talmud.

By noting the above I'm not attempting to defend the various West European
bibles which merge Gehenna, Hades and Tartarus into "Hell".
Regards
Steven
