The question seems to be so simple, yet has a deep involvement in the
history of christianity.
The sign of "Fish" was chosen by someone who was feeling the need to
communicate with other believers in the time of persecution. C.W.conrad's
remarks are helpful. Fishing would have played a role. But may be also the
desire to formulare a confession. Jesus Christ the son of God t he Saviour
seems to be the beginning of such an attempt. And the word ICQUS might have
been born through playing around with this.
These will be certainly speculations, yet it would help us to find "an
answer" that speaks to our faith.
