In Hippolytus (The Refutation of All Heresies 9, 13-23 [18-28
in Migne, and also assigned to Origen]) there is a description of the beliefs of
the Essenes. In 22 [27] he says, "Now the doctrine of the resurrection has also
derived support among these" (Gk: ERhRWTAI DE PAR AUTOIS KAI hO THS ANASTASEWS
LOGOS). My question is, does "among these" (Gk. PAR AUTOIS) refer to the Essenes
as a whole, or to a specific sub-group of Essenes mentioned in 21 [26] as
being "others of a later period...etc." (A further sub-group of the
Zealot/Sicarii sub-group mentioned just before?) Any help on this would be
greatly appreciated...
