Clay, the first thing to do with a word like this is to check out the
uncompounded form, hISTOREW. Etymologically (FWIW) this derives from the
same root as OIDA (FEID/FOID/FID where F = Digamma with 'w' sound) and
means: do research, learn by asking questions, endeavor to find out. Then
when the adverbial prefix DIA- is added, the suggestion is that the
research process is fine-tuned, sharply analytic. hISTOREW is a fairly
common verb in classical Attic, and it is closely related to the noun
hISTORIA, which originally meant something like "research report."
