This is, of course, an attitude absolutely foreign and alien to us modern
Americans, to whom any sign of obeisance is antithetical to our revolutionary
roots and their evolutionary results. It is un-Greek, at root, and stems from
the contempt the Greeks felt for the Orientals and their forms of politcal
relationships.
