I am having some difficulty finding a lexical entry for a term that seems
to appear in Ptolemaeus' "Letter to Flora", as printed in Werner Foerster's
_Gnosis: A Selection of Gnostic Texts_, Vol. I (Oxford, 1972).
There is a footnote at Epiphanius, Panarion XXXIII 7, 4 (at least, I think
that numbering is correct) in this phrase:
4. But in fact he is the Fashioner (20) and Maker of this entire universe
and of what is in it. He is different from these two realities and since
he stands in the midst between them, he rightly bears the name 'Middle'.
At the bottom of the page is the note:
(20) Greek demiurgo/s
The / being an acute accent on an otherwise english transliteration.
Any clue where I might a lexical entry? Neither BAGD nor Liddell-Scott
(newest) seem to have a reference, which strikes me as odd since the term
seems to have made its way into the english language. I have had no luck
with the Perseus site either.
