<x-flowed>To: Edward Hobbs,

<< The thread-label is still BAGD2, so I'll note that the new official date
for BAGD3 is April, but the Press thinks it might even be sooner now, since
all corrected proofs are in. >>

BAG was published in 1957, BAGD was published in 1979, & BAGD2 is due to
come out soon -- Danker looks a little too old to start working on a BAGD3. <g>

"When the English tongue we speak
Why is break not rhymed with freak?
Will you tell me why it's true
We say sew but likewise few?
And the maker of this verse
Cannot rhyme his horse with worse.
Beard sound not the same as heard;
Cord is different from word;
Shoe is never rhymed with foe.
Think of hose and dose and lose,
And of goose and choose:
Think of comb and tomb and bomb,
Doll and roll and home and some:
And since pay is rhymed with say,
Why not paid with said I pray?
We have blood and food and good,
Mould is not pronounced like could.
How come done, but gone and lone?
Is there any reason known?
So, in short, it seems to me,
Me and English don't agree!!!!!"

Language and Linguistics," by Marina Yaguello, p. 46-47).
