I really don't think this will work; very occasionally in the early Greek
instances of AIRW does it seem able to carry the meaning "suffer,"
"endure"--like FERW or TOLMAW/TLAW--but it's fundamental usage in later
eras seems to be "lift up"--very much like Latin TOLLO, in the sense of
"remove from the scene" or "take away"--and I really think that's the
meaning one really ought to assume in this passage. It's noteworthy that
the same word appears a second time in the same verse (AIRETAI APO THS GHS
hH ZWH AUTOU)--and apparently in the same sense (Isaiah 53:8): EN THi
TAPEINWSEI hH KRISIS AUTOU HRQH; THN GENAN AUTOU TIS DIHGHSETAI, hOTI
AIRETAI APO THS GHS hH ZWH AUTOU; APO TWN ANOMIWN TOU LAOU MOU HCQH EIS
QANATON.
