I believe "the Word" in Hebrews 4:12 refers to Jesus as the Word of God,
just as in the Gospel of John. Jesus, the Word, is the living and active God.
Cf. Revelation 1:16b: "A sharp two-edged sword came out of his mouth, and
his face shone like the sun at its brightest." Also, Ephesians 6:17:
"And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is
the Word of God." This sword will destroy unrepentant sinners,
cf. Revelation 2:16; 19:15; Wisdom 18:15; Isaiah 11:4; 49:2.
