reading Thucydides today and found this gem, that brought to my
memory the very old nominativus absolutus thread. It looks to me like
if the AU)TOI\ ... AI)TOU/MEQA could qualify as a real nominativus
absolutus! I am sending to you the whole text, and tell me what you
think, if you find it interesting. (The text is in SuperGreek, but
you can visualize it in any Linguist's software font). Perseus' not
very literal translation of the passage is: "To be convinced of
this you have only to look at our present misfortune. What power in
Hellas stood higher than we did? and yet we are come to you, although
we formerly thought ourselves more able to grant what we are now here
to ask."</div>
