In context, however, isn't the husband also a vessel -- albeit the
masculine and stronger one? One might say then that both husband and
wife are vessels -- and here they aren't *each other's* vessels (that's
not in view in this passage).
Incidentally, in the translation given above, TWi GUNAIKEIWi is treated
as an adjective modifying SKEUEI. Couldn't (shouldn't?) TWi GUNAIKEIWi
be taken substantively ("giving honour to the feminine" = "the female")
and the anarthrous SKEUEI be read as the noun modified by the equally
anarthrous ASQENESTERWi ("as [a] weaker jar")?
