Wayne,

The 1992 book is an entirely different book than the 1982 book.

J. P. Louw and E. A. Nida, Lexical Semantics of New Testament Greek,
Scholars Press, 1992.

This book (1992) is an explanation of the theory and practice of LEXICAL
semantics that went into the making of Greek-English Lexicon of The New
Testament - Based on Semantic Domains, American Bible Society, 1988. It is a
rather technical book and it is limited in scope to questions of LEXICAL
analysis.

J. P. Louw, The Semantics of New Testament Greek, Fortress 1982.

The 1982 book is a treatment of general semantics that goes far beyond word
level (lexical) semantics. In this book Louw lays a lot of stress on doing
semantic analysis at constituent levels above the word, e.g. phrase, clause,
paragraph, discourse. This book contains extend examples from the Greek NT.
It is a short book and does not require an extensive background in
linguistics to understand. It is almost 20 years old but is still worth
reading because it serves to liberate the NT Greek student from the tyranny
of words, i.e., an over reliance on the analysis of lexical issues in NT
Greek exegesis.
