AUTH DI AF HS EISHLQON OU DIELIPEN KATAFILOUSA MOU TOUS PODAS
(Luke 7:45b)

This is not a critical question(s), but I am a new Greek student trying my
best to learn. My question has a “grammatical” aspect and a “context”
aspect.

First, the grammatical question.

How does HS function grammatically in this sentence? And what part of speech
is it?

My Interlinear translates it as “when.” I assume this is an Adverb.
Basics of Biblical Greek (Mounce) indicates it’s an Adjective. (page 341)
(The accent mark indicates that it is not the Imperfect of EIMI, per Mounce,
page 252.)

Lastly, the context question.

In the preceding verses, especially 37, it appears that the woman learned of
Jesus’ presence at the dinner and subsequently went there to perform these
acts. Therefore, does this section of verse 45b indicate that she had been
kissing his feet from the time Jesus entered?

It seems to me that she began kissing his feet AFTER he entered the dinner
room.

I guess the verb tenses and other things will clear this up.

Thank you,

Mark Wilson
