Another avenue for you to pursue may be the Patristic literature on Docetism
and responses to some Gnostic sects. The concept of Jesus as the God's Son
by "adoption" at the Baptism by John was central to these sects. Patristic
literature responded to this theory.
A keyword search of Docetism and Adoption at the Wheaton site should get you
started.
